Governance at Brooke Hill Academy and Nursery

Brooke Hill Primary School and Nursery became an Academy on 1st September 2011, which means it has become a charitable company for which the Brooke Hill Academy Trust entered into a funding arrangement with the Secretary of State. The Academy is now funded directly by the government, to whom it is therefore accountable, rather than the local authority. There are three trustees from within the Governing body.

The Governors manage the Academy on behalf of the Trust, and the key responsibilities are:

  • to ensure all children receive good quality education
  • to challenge and monitor the performance of the Academy
  • to manage the Academy Trust's finances and property
  • to employ staff
  • to ensure that both the Academy and the Academy Trust comply with both charity and company law
  • to manage and comply with the obligations of the Funding Agreement

The full governing body normally meets three times each academic year, but most of their work is done through committees, each of which have specific areas of responsibility, and in some cases delegated powers. All committee decisions are ratified by the full governing body.

The Governors, all of whom are volunteers, are:

  • Mr Keith Potts - Trustee, Chair
  • Mr Simon Foulkes - Trustee, Vice-Chair
  • Mrs Gaynor Morris - Trustee
  • Mr Keith Ambrose - Responsible Officer
  • Mrs Sharon Milner - Headteacher
  • Miss Natalie Hazeldine - Teacher Governor
  • Mrs Chris Law
  • Mrs Jacqui Moore
  • Mrs Kath Rowlands
  • Mrs Rachel Sennett - Support Staff Governor
  • Mr Andy Sleightholme
  • Mrs Karen Emmerson

    The committees are:
    • Admissions - though only to consider applications during the academic year
    • Buildings and general purposes
    • Communication
    • Complaints and appeals
    • Curriculum
    • Finance
    • Nursery
    • Personnel
    • Special Educational Needs
