Reception

Reception -Mrs Bagshaw & Mrs Lawe

Welcome to Reception

Our Reception classes are warm, nurturing and inspiring environments where children begin their learning journey with confidence and curiosity. We believe that early experiences matter, which is why our Reception provision is designed to give every child a strong start, supporting their well-being, independence and love of learning from day one.

Children in Reception learn through a balance of child-led exploration, purposeful play and focused adult-guided learning. Our indoor and outdoor environments are carefully created to promote language development, problem-solving, creativity and social skills. Above all, we aim to ensure children feel happy, secure and excited to learn.

Our Reception outdoor provision has recently been refreshed to enhance opportunities for meaningful play and discovery. Children now enjoy a range of engaging areas—including a performance stage, investigation station, construction zone, and dedicated maths and writing sheds—each designed to spark imagination and support key early skills. These spaces are accessible throughout the day, providing pupils with rich opportunities to explore, collaborate and learn in a natural outdoor setting.

A Smooth Transition From Pre-School

We are proud of the close partnership between our Pre-School and Reception team. Many of our children begin their journey with us in Pre-School, where they build early relationships, develop routine familiarity and gain confidence in their environment. This seamless connection ensures a smooth transition into Reception and strengthens the foundations for learning. It is not essential to have attended our Pre-School to be warmly welcomed or to thrive in Reception. Every child, whatever their starting point, receives the same high level of care, support and encouragement to make a confident and positive start to school life.

Woodland Wednesdays

Each week, children take part in Woodland Wednesdays, where they explore our local woodland area. These sessions give children the chance to get messy, climb, investigate and take carefully managed risks while enjoying the outdoors.

Woodland Wednesdays are a much-loved part of our EYFS offer and help children grow into independent, adventurous learners.
